How are purchases selected?

All library books are selected in accordance with the Hart District selection policy. The teacher librarian consults a wide variety of resources including, but not limited do, professional reviews, content experts (teachers), student suggestions, and current collection analysis in the selection process. All resources selected for our school library are chosen to meet the needs of our current patrons and reflect a diversity of perspectives.

Where Does the money come from?

The Hart District gives each school a small pool of funds each year. Beyond the initial $1500 for high schools (the equivalent of purchasing approximately 50 hardbound books) it is up to each school site to secure additional funds to keep library collections updated and in good repair. Here at Canyon, this funding typically comes from site administration as well as Title 1 funding, as available.

How can I support the library?

Monetary donations, made in person, are always welcome as well as book donations. Book donations should be classified as YA (young adult) or should be appropriate and of interest to teenage readers. In addition, any purchases made from our Amazon Wishlist are greatly appreciated.
